What is a Moroccan Hammam — and Why Every Man in Dubai Should Try It

Most men in Dubai have heard of the Hammam. Few have actually experienced one. And the ones who have? They never go back to a regular shower again.

If you’ve been curious about what a Moroccan Hammam actually involves — and whether it’s worth it — this is your complete guide.

What Exactly is a Hammam?

The Hammam is a centuries-old North African bathing ritual that goes far deeper than a standard wash. Think of it as a full reset for your body and skin — a deep cleanse, exfoliation, and conditioning treatment all in one session.

It’s been practised across Morocco, Turkey, and the Arab world for thousands of years. Not as a luxury, but as a necessity. A ritual that men built into their weekly routine because of how good it makes you look and feel.

At its core, a traditional Hammam involves three stages: heat and steam to open the pores, black soap to deeply cleanse the skin, and a kessa mitt to exfoliate and strip away dead skin cells. The result is skin that looks and feels completely renewed.

What Happens During a GOATED Hammam at The GOAT?

Here’s exactly what you can expect when you book a Hammam session with us:

Stage 1 — Steam and Heat Your session begins with warm steam to open your pores and prepare your skin. This is what makes everything that follows so effective — no amount of scrubbing works as well on skin that hasn’t been properly opened up first.

Stage 2 — Black Soap Application We apply traditional Moroccan black soap — made from olive oil and crushed olives — across your body. This isn’t your standard shower gel. Black soap is packed with natural vitamins and softens the skin deeply before the exfoliation begins. It’s left on for several minutes to work into the pores.

Stage 3 — Kessa Exfoliation This is the moment most first-timers can’t believe. Using a kessa mitt — a traditional coarse exfoliation glove — we remove layers of dead skin that regular washing simply never reaches. You will visibly see the dead skin rolling off. It sounds intense, but it feels extraordinary.

Stage 4 — Deep Conditioning The session finishes with a conditioning treatment to nourish and hydrate the freshly exfoliated skin, leaving it smooth, soft, and genuinely glowing.

Why is it Particularly Good for Men in Dubai?

Dubai’s climate is brutal on skin. The combination of extreme heat, dry desert air, air conditioning everywhere you go, and high humidity creates a cycle that clogs pores, dries out skin, and leaves most men looking dull without even realising it.

A regular Hammam session cuts through all of that. It clears the buildup that daily washing can’t touch, resets your skin’s natural balance, and leaves you looking sharper than any moisturiser or face wash ever could.

Most of our clients who try it once book it monthly without hesitation.

Do I Need to Prepare Anything?

No preparation needed. Just show up. We take care of everything from start to finish. The only thing we’d suggest is avoiding shaving immediately before your session — freshly shaved skin can be more sensitive during exfoliation. Wait at least 24 hours after shaving before your Hammam.

How Often Should You Get One?

For most men, once a month is the sweet spot. If you’re particularly active, training regularly, or spending a lot of time outdoors in Dubai’s heat, every two to three weeks will keep your skin in peak condition year-round.

Is it Just for Skin?

The benefits go beyond the surface. Most men leave a Hammam session feeling genuinely relaxed — muscles loosened, mind cleared, body reset. In a city that runs at Dubai’s pace, that kind of reset is worth more than it sounds.
